Prep Baseball Roundup: Sadler’s walk-off double lifts L-B past Leipsic

Trailing by three, Liberty-Benton scored all four of its runs in the final three innings, including the walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh to snag a 4-3 Blanchard Valley Conference win over Leipsic on Thursday.

Jon Sadler spearheaded L-B’s offense with a single, double and two RBIs including a walk-off RBI double. Griffin Snider added two singles and an RBI and Luke McDonald singled twice and scored the game-winning run for the Eagles (5-3, 4-0 BVC).

Tyler Hiegel drove in a pair of runs with a double to lead the Vikings (2-5, 2-3), while Drew Liffick (RBI) and Dylan Schroeder each singled twice.

VANLUE — Riverdale conceded three runs but held Vanlue to just one hit in claiming an 11-3 win in Blanchard Valley Conference action.

Seth McElree led the Falcons’ (7-4 overall, 5-1 BVC) offense, which scored four runs in the first inning, with four singles. Winning pitcher Alec Loveridge added three singles with an RBI and Aidan Loveridge had two singles with a pair of RBIs.

J.J. Miller’s single was the lone hit for the Wildcats (2-10, 1-4).

PANDORA — Pandora-Gilboa did all of its scoring in the fourth inning en route to a 5-1 victory over Fort Jennings in Putnam County League play.

Josh Shartell singled and drove in two runs and Chase Huffman had two hits and an RBI for the Rockets as they upped their record to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the PCL.

Brandon Wehri’s lone hit of the game made him Fort Jennings’ career leader in that category with 102. Losing pitcher Derek Luersman, Aaron Sealts and Nolan Grote had two hits apiece for the Musketeers (5-7, 0-3).

Winning pitcher Grant Fuerst, Owen Hiegel and Nathan Arrington each had a pair of singles for the Titans (8-2).

Josh Klausing laced a three-run double in the fifth inning to pull the Wildcats (6-3) within 4-3.

FREMONT — Carey’s baseball team did it again.

For the fourth straight game, the Blue Devils scored the go-ahead run in the final inning as Grant Frederick’s RBI single propelled them past Fremont St. Joseph 7-5 in nonleague play.

Carey (9-0) fell behind 3-0 after four innings but got back in the game with a four-run fifth highlighted by Trey Bame’s three-run double. Bame, who got the save in the seventh, added an RBI groundout for insurance in the top half.

The Crimson Streaks fell to 4-8.

Peterson took the complete-game loss on the mound for the Patriots, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits and four walks with 12 strikeouts.

Trent Murdock had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Tigers (1-4, 1-2).

TIFFIN — An eight-run third inning and six RBIs from Grant Vera propelled Tiffin Calvert to a 15-5 victory over Toledo Woodward on Thursday in nonconference baseball.

Vera hit a home run and singled as the Senecas raised their record to 4-3. Jacob Kin, Brayden Thomas and Conor Kennedy each had two hits for Calvert, with Kin and Thomas each notching a double, and Nate Wuescher doubled and knocked in two runs.

Domonique McClain doubled, singled and drove in two runs for the Polar Bears.
