Prep baseball roundup: Kalida’s Recker throws a gem

KALIDA — Junior Owen Recker pitched a no-hitter and struck out 18 Columbus Grove batters Friday to lead Kalida to a 1-0 victory in a Putnam County League baseball game.

Recker walked two in improving to 3-0 on the season. Trevor Lambert hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning for the game-winning RBI. Kalida remained unbeaten in PCL play at 4-0; the Wildcats are 7-3 overall.

Nick Woods was the tough-luck loser for Columbus Grove (3-5, 2-1 PCL). He struck out five and allowed just two hits.

FREMONT — Tyler Lydick pitched a complete-game shutout Friday, striking out eight and allowing two hits, as Findlay defeated Fremont Ross 11-0 in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference baseball game.

Drew Parish had three hits to pace a 12-hit attack for Findlay (5-5, 4-1 TRAC). Pat Dillon and Cam Dillon each had two hits.

The Trojans used a five-run top of the third inning to take control. Parish, Pat Dillon, Nate Miller and Harrison Hall each had RBIs in the inning.

NORTH BALTIMORE — Tinora did all of its scoring in the last three innings and claimed a 6-3 victory over North Baltimore in a nonconference game.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but the Rams tallied two runs in the fifth inning, three in the sixth and one in the seventh while lifting their record to 7-1.

Adam Flores and Jaden Bucher each had two hits and an RBI for North Baltimore (5-4), with Flores cracking a double. Alex Snider added a single and an RBI.

Angel Garcia and winning pitcher Cade Whitticar threw a combined two-hitter. Garcia went the first six innings, allowing both hits with six strikeouts and now walks before Whitticar pitched a perfect seventh with a strikeout for the Black Knights (6-2).

Winning pitcher Shane Pitzen, who did not allow a hit in 22/3 innings of relief, doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs (3-3, 2-3).

Luke Wolford recorded a hit and four RBIs and Eric Ritter had a triple among his three hits and drove in three runs as the five-inning win boosted the Hornets’ record to 2-7.

Austyn Russler had two RBIs for the Polar Bears (1-9).

WAUSEON — Patrick Henry kept pace with Wauseon for three innings, but the Indians scorced the Patriots in the fourth inning and held on from there for a 12-4 Northwest Ohio Athletic League win.

The Patriots (1-6, 0-4 NWOAL) were tied with Wauseon 4-4 through three frames, but did not score over the final four innings.

Christian Petersen paced the Patriots’ offense with a single and a double and Jordan Moore singled twice.

Wauseon, which improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the NWOAL, scored six fourth-inning runs. Justus Chapa singled twice and drove in a pair of runs to lead the offense.
