Prep Track: Kalida’s Verhoff claims meet records at DSJ Invite

DELPHOS — Kalida’s Josh Verhoff swept the sprints and was on the winning 400-meter relay team as well as the Wildcats finished second at Saturday’s Delphos St. John’s Invitational.

Lincolnview edged Kalida 142-130 to take the boys crown. Ottoville, led by three-time champ Brendan Siefker, was third with 86 points while Fort Jennings (48) ended up seventh.

Verhoff set meet records in the 100 (10.79) and 400 (52.59) while also crossing the finish line first in the 200 (22.86). He also teamed with Chandler Hopkins, Trevor Vorst and Grant Laudick to win the 400 relay in 45.57 seconds.

Aiden Fersch added a victory in the pole vault for the Wildcats with a leap of 10-6.

Siefker, the returning 1,600-meter run state champ, dominated the distance races as he swept to wins in the 800 (2:04.72), 1,600 (4:30.06) and 3,200 (9:50.50).

Ian Ricker captured the 110 high hurdles (16.33) to lead Fort Jennings.

Kalida’s girls outscored Lincolnview 189-121 for the girls crown. Ottoville (90) was third and Fort Jennings (25) ended up seventh.

The Wildcats scored wins in nine events.

Kyla Fortman, Kierstan Siebeneck, Carlie Rampe and Taylor Lucke won the 3,200 relay (10:35.44) and Kathryn Siebeneck, Hannah Berheide and Abby and McKayla Maag won the 400 relay (53.85).

Lucke finished as a triple winner as she captured the 1,600 (5:25.88) and 3,200 (11:56.65). Berheide crossed the finish line first in the 200 (27.78) and Abby Maag won the 100 (12.82).

Other wins for Kalida came in the shot put from Sarah Klausing with a throw of 36-2, Brenna Smith in the 100 hurdles (17.68) and Grace Miller in the pole vault (6-9).

Quinley Schlagbaum was a triple winner for Ottoville. She teamed with Nicole Williams, Madicyn Schnipke and Lindsay Schweller to win the 800 relay (1:55.28) and Schweller, Williams and Madison Averesch to take the 1,600 relay (4:29.62). She also captured the 300 hurdles (50.07).

Brynlee Hanneman added a victory in the discus (119-8) for the Big Green.
