Prep Baseball Roundup: Kalida’s Klausing no-hits Leipsic

KALIDA — Kalida’s Josh Klausing struck out 12 and threw a no-hitter Thursday as the Wildcats remained unbeaten in Putnam County League baseball with a 9-0 victory over Leipsic.

Klausing, a senior who also stroked a pair of singles, walked four in the route-going performance for Kalida, which climbed to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in the PCL.

Klausing got plenty of support from Gabe Hovest (3-1B, 3 RBI) and Kevin Hamburg (2-1B, RBI).

Eli Palmer tallied three singles and Lance Conley singled and drove in a run for the Redskins (6-8, 4-4 BVC).

Josh Shartell (2B) and Chase Huffman (1B) drove in both runs for P-G (5-8, 3-4).

ARLINGTON — A five-run sixth inning enabled Arlington to break open a close game and put away Cory-Rawson 10-4 on Thursday in a Blanchard Valley Conference baseball game.

The Red Devils (4-10, 2-5 BVC) had a 5-4 lead before their big inning.

Caden Lafferty (2B), winning pitcher Will Bushong and Brayden Bushong each drove in two runs for Arlington. Ben Slough collected three hits.

Luke Wolford singled and drove in two runs and losing pitcher Austin Price doubled, singled and knocked in a run for the Hornets (2-11, 1-7).

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale’s Jonathan Walter fanned 10 batters in his complete-game outing to lead the Falcons past Colonel Crawford 7-5 for a nonleague baseball win Thursday.

Walter (4-2) gave up five runs, none earned on six hits and two walks as the Falcons (9-6) committed six errors. The Eagles (4-13) also committed six errors but gave up five earned runs.

Alec Loveridge (2B) and Seth McElree each had a hit and two RBIs to lead Riverdale.

NEW RIEGEL — Alec Zoeller swatted a game-high three hits and earned the win as New Riegel trounced Liberty-Benton 14-4 in nonleague baseball action on Thursday.

Zoeller, who struck out seven in five innings, added three singles with a pair of RBIs for the Blue Jackets (6-5). Dylan Smith (2-1B, 2B) had two RBIs and Ben Dryfuse singled twice with a game-high three RBIs.

Griffin Hohman singled twice and Jon Sadler doubled with an RBI to lead the Eagles (8-5).

Winning pitcher Zach Kreais went five innings and allowed three unearned runs on three hits and one walk with one strikeout. He added a double and a single at the plate as the Chieftains (8-6) outhit the Crimson Streaks 9-5.

Fremont St. Joseph fell to 7-12 overall.

Kedryk Leeth led Mohawk (6-8, 3-7) with three hits, including a triple.

Ada (3-11, 0-6 NWC), which outhit the Bearcats 8-7, was led by Aaron Everhart’s two singles, double and three RBIs.

Drake Mertz (2-1B, 2B) tallied three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead Spencerville (6-6, 4-1).

Caleb Bennington had a triple and an RBI for the Little Giants (2-8).

Trey Groves had two of the five hits for the Redmen (1-12), including a double.
