Findlay High Roundup: FHS tennis reaches state quarterfinals

SYLVANIA — Findlay High School’s boys tennis team got clutch come-back wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles on Tuesday in getting past Sylvania Southview 4-1 in the regional semifinals of the Ohio High School Tennis Coaches Association team tournament.

Findlay will next compete in the state quarterfinals, probably on Monday. The Trojans (17-3) will face the winner of today’s match between Toledo St. John’s and Perrysburg.

In Tuesday’s No. 2 singles match, Findlay’s Logan Tichenor lost the first set 7-5, but rallied for 6-2 and 7-5 wins against Southview’s Lucas Podasky. Ethan Heidepriem and Blake Gray did the same at No. 2 doubles, overcoming a first-set loss to beat Southview’s Nathaniel Long and Sean Park 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Findlay dominated two of the other three matches, especially at No. 1 singles where Sean Swisher blanked Dennis Filatov 6-0, 6-0. Alec Kagy and Sam Giedeman defeated Southview’s Jacob Connoley and Ben Taylor 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Sylvania Southview (15-5) earned its win at No. 3 singles where Stefan McNerney defeated Jason Tornes 6-0, 6-2.

While Findlay waits for the team tournament to resume next week, the Trojans will be competing individually in singles and doubles in the Division I district tournament Thursday and Saturday at Bowling Green State University. The top two singles players and doubles teams will advance to the state tournament in Mason May 26-27.

Baseball beats Clay

OREGON — Winning pitcher Pat Dillon combined with Phillip Bibler on a three-hitter and supported his own cause by driving in three runs as Findlay High beat Oregon Clay 5-1 on Tuesday in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference baseball game.

Dillon struck out 10 and walked one in five innings and Bibler earned the save`with two shutout innings in which he struck out three and did not issue a walk as the Trojans improved to 11-14 and 7-6 in the TRAC.

Pat Dillon doubled and singled at the plate and Cam Dillon doubled and knocked in a run.

The Eagles fell to 9-11 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
