Prep Softball Roundup: Ada, Grove move on at Elida District

ELIDA — It will be a battle between the Northwest Conference Bulldogs when Ada and Columbus Grove square off in Elida on Friday for a Division IV district softball championship and a trip to the regional tournament.

Columbus Grove trounced Lincolnview 8-1 and Ada beat Wayne Trace 4-2 in Wednesday’s rain-delayed district semifinal games at the Elida Middle School.

Columbus Grove, the No. 1-seeded team in the district field, will carry a 17-4 record into Friday’s contest. Ada, seeded second, enters the game with a 16-8 record.

Friday’s winner will face either Tinora or Ayersville at 5 p.m. on May 23 in a Division IV regional semifinal game at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay.

Toledo St. Ursula junior Morgan Bowers, who has committed to Kent State, scattered five singles and struck out seven Wednesday as the Arrows shut out Findlay High 4-0 in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference softball game.

Bowers also doubled and hit a home run at the plate as St. Ursula improved to 12-8, 7-5 TRAC. Bailey Garno and Megan Burgy had RBIs for the Arrrow.

Emily Betts had two singles for Findlay (12-12. 6-7 TRAC). Brea Bolen, Kallie Kramer and Sammy Vance also hit singles.

Renae McDonald allowed one earned run in five innings for the Trojans while taking the loss. She struck out seven and walked five.

Findlay wraps up its season Friday as the Trojans host Oregon Clay in a TRAC game at 5 p.m. at the Marathon Diamonds.

ATTICA — Alivia Oney tossed a two-hitter and added three hits of her own at the plate as Upper Sandusky finished its season with a 6-0 victory over Seneca East in a Northern 10 Conference softball game.

Sydney Swavel singled twice, doubled and drove in a run for the Rams (12-9, 8-8 N10), who also got a single and two RBIs from Reagan Ward and a double, a single and an RBI from Hannah McKinniss.

The Tigers finished at 12-9 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
