Prep Baseball Roundup: Kalida reaches district final

DEFIANCE — Patrick Henry’s Christian Petersen threw a no-hitter against Kalida in the Division IV district semifinals on Wednesday. But a bit of wildness cost the junior ace in a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats.

Though Kalida did not get a hit, the Wildcats were able to scratch out a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Owen Recker reached first that inning when he was hit by a pitch. Recker was sacrificed to second, then scored he game’s only run on a pair of Petersen wild pitches.

Kalida, the No. 2 seeded team in the district, will now take a 16-6 record into Friday’s 5 p.m. district final. The Wildcats will face top-seeded Lima Central Catholic, which defeated Ottoville 4-0 in Wednesday’s district semifinal opener.

Wednesday’s games were moved from Ottawa’s Memorial Park to Defiance High School because of wet grounds. Friday’s district final is scheduled to be held back at Ottawa Memorial Park.
