Prep Roundup: Schrieber is first team all-WBL

Ottawa-Glandorf pitching ace Chase Schrieber was a first-team pick and Austin Horstman earned third-team honors in the Western Buckeye League 2018 all-conference baseball selections released on Sunday.

Schrieber, a senior right-hander, was a first-team all-WBL pick for the second straight year.

O-G’s Nathan Arrington received honorable mention all-league recognition for the Titans (14-8).

WBL champion and regional semifinalist Wapakoneta swept the top awards in the all-league voting, with Don Goodes and Manny Vorhees sharing player of the year honors and the Redskins’ Jason Brandt named the WBL Coach of the Year.

All-NWC softball

Spencerville swept the top awards as the Northwest Conference released its 2018 all-league softball teams.

Senior shortstop Kara May was named NWC Player of the Year. She finished the regular season with a batting average of .594 and owns virtually every offensive record at Spencerville.

Spencerville coach Jeff Johnston was named Coach of the Year after leading the Bearcats to a 7-1 league record and the school’s first league softball championship.

Bluffton’s Averey Rumer and Libby Schaadt, Ada’s Madisyn Gossard and Sydney Newland, and Columbus Grove’s Teyah Sautter were first-team selections.

Bluffton’s Katie Prater, Columbus Grove’s Danielle Bame and Ada’s Olivia Alexander were second-team picks.
