Youth baseball: Diamond Dawgs U12 team wins Nations tourney

CANTON — The Findlay U12 Diamond Dawgs beat the Maumee X-treme 18-3 on Sunday to complete a 7-0 run to the championship of the 2018 Select Nations State Tournament in Canton.

Javonte Hill was the winning pitcher in the championship game. He posted two wins and a save in the seven games, and accounted for 11 RBIs with four singles, six doubles and four home runs.

Ethan Klotz (8-1B, 2-2B, 3 HR) also drove in 11 runs, with four coming on a game-winning grand slam in an 8-6 win over the Maumee Panthers on Saturday.

Brandon Stutzman (9-1B, 3-2B) led the Diamond Dawgs with 13 RBIs in the tournament. Luke Weihrauch (8-1B, 3-2B) had 11 hits, Evan Pester (4 RBI) had 10, Andrew Kayser (5-1B, 2-2B, 4 RBI) nine Mason Hoskins (6-1B, 2-2B, 6 RBI) eight and Austin Sertell (5-1B, 2-2B) seven.

The Diamond Dawgs advanced to Sunday’s final with a 12-7 win over Solon, then defeated the Maumee X-treme to earn Findlay the U12 Select Nations state title for the second consecutive year.
