Prep Golf: Findlay tops TRAC rivals in opener

TOLEDO — Findlay High School’s boys golf team leads the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

It’s still early, though.

The Trojans finished seventh in the 19-team field at Saturday’s St. Francis Knight Invitational at Heatherdowns Golf Club, but finished first among the seven Three Rivers Athletic Conference teams that competed in the event that doubled as a TRAC match.

Van Buren, meanwhile, finished fifth overall as Connor Ohlrich placed second individually with a 75 to power the Black Knights to a 326 team score. A.J. Overmyer shot an 83, Quentin Weddell and Noah Frederick both carded 84s. Grayson Temple (89) and Travis Neumeister (98) also played for Van Buren.

The Trojans got 81s from Jordan Goeb and Justin Hartman on their way to shooting 332 as a team. Grant Lane and Harry Hall both added 85s to complete the team scoring for FHS. Nick Holman (91) and Will Templin (94) also played for the Trojans.

As far as TRAC teams scored, host St. Francis was second in the league portion of the event with a 334 followed by Toledo St. John’s (336), Oregon Clay (343), Toledo Whitmer (345), Toledo Central Catholic (409) and Fremont Ross (411).

Lexington captured the team title with a 309-317 margin over Sylvania Northview.

Oregon Clay’s Palmer Yenrick was the tournament medalist with a 68.

Findlay is back in action today in another TRAC match at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green while Van Buren heads to the Columbus Country Club for the Gahanna Columbus Academy Invitational.

Holliday shoots 75

TOLEDO — Chloe Holliday fired a personal best 75 Saturday as Findlay High School’s girls golf team opened its season in the Toledo Notre Dame Eagle Invitational at Detwiler Golf Course.

Carsyn Kouns, the only other golfer on the Findlay team with varsity experience, was next with a 104.

Cameron Heiserman (131) and Cate Rummel (134) rounded out the team scoring. Abby Powell (137) and Michaela McNamara also played for the Trojans.

New Albany was the team champion as it easily topped runner up Lima Central Catholic 293-325.

Van Buren was 10th with 418 strokes and Findlay finished 12th at 444.
