BOWLING GREEN — Findlay High’s girls tennis team got marathon-match wins at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in posting a 4-1 win over Bowling Green on Friday in the season-opening match for both schools.
At No. 2 singles, Findlay’s Becca Mathews and BG’s Willow Wymer were teid 1-1 in sets and 5-5 in games in the third set. A strong finish gave Mathews the win, though, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
Findlay’s Katelynn Coleman and Kaylor Stocker dropped their first set to BG’s Quinn Beeker and Faith Zang, then rallied for a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory at No. 1 doubles.
Findlay also got wins at No. 3 singles, where Megan Earhart beat Leela Cromwell 6-1, 6-0, and at No. 2 doubles, where Maggie McGhee and Izzy Zalat defeated Maddie Herrington and Jenna Sickler 6-1, 6-3.
Bowling Green earned its win at No. 1 singles where Lucinda Busselle doubled up Findlay’s Lauren Spaeth 6-2, 6-2.
Findlay plays its first home match of the season on Monday when the Trojans host Perrysburg in a nonleague contest.
