Deliberations continue in Chicago terror trial

CHICAGO (AP) — Jury deliberation has resumed in the federal trial of three men who are accused of plotting attacks during the 2012 NATO summit.

The three are facing terrorism charges under a rarely tested state statute.

Prosecutor Tom Biesty says the trio wanted to instill fear by using Molotov cocktails to attack President Barack Obama’s campaign headquarters and other sites in the city.

But the men’s lawyers say they were drunken goofs and argue they were goaded into the plot by an undercover officer who infiltrated the group. They scoff at the portrayal of the three as terrorists.

Jurors were sent home late Thursday, and they resumed deliberations Friday morning.
