Farmers face Friday deadline for county committee ballots

Friday is the deadline for farmers to return county committee election ballots to the Farm Service Agency office at Suite C, 7868 Hancock County 140.
Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Friday.
County committee members provide a link between the agricultural community and U.S. Department of Agriculture. They help with service agency programs at the county level, including decisions on commodity price support programs; conservation programs; incentive indemnity and disaster programs for some commodities; emergency programs and eligibility.
Eligible voters must be involved in a service agency program.
Each committee consists of three to 11 members who serve a three-year term. About one-third of county committee seats are up for election each year.
More information on county committees, including the 2013 fact sheet and brochures, can be found on the service agency website at or at the service agency office.
