FOSTORIA — Columbia Gas of Ohio will begin an extensive pipeline replacement project today, closing one lane of Countyline Street for roughly one month.
The easterly northbound lane of Countyline Street between North and Elm streets will be closed for about four weeks as crews with Columbia Gas replace steel pipes with plastic lines for enhanced durability underground.
Jason Copsey, external affairs specialist for Columbia Gas, said the new pipelines will have a longer shelf life and a better ability to flex with changing soil conditions.
The work is part of a larger initiative lasting throughout the summer that will see crews replacing main lines, gas meters and services in the 10-block area from Countyline Street to Wood Street, said City Engineer Dan Thornton.
