Hurstel “Tennessee” Human, 93, of Findlay, passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at his residence.
He was born on June 27, 1920, in Robbins, TN, to the late William and Reene (Smith) Human. He married Maggie M. Lowe on May 8, 1942, and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2010.
Hurstel is survived by his sons: George (Bea) Human of Kirby, and Columbus W. (Pam) Human of Mt. Blanchard; his daughters: Brenda K. (Richard) Lewis of Kenton, Carolyn Stevens of Findlay, Catherine Sue Hoover of Kenton, Paulette (George) Mason of Shawnee, OK and Betty Michaels of Findlay; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Midget. He was preceded in death by his son, Harold Human; his sister, Imogene Atwood; and his son-in-law, Wendell Hoover.
Hurstel was a retired construction worker, and a 60 year member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served our country during World War II, and was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Buddy Chapter #43.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2014, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Reverend Michael Spann officiating. Burial will be in Houcktown Cemetery, Jackson Township, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veteran’s Memorial Squad. Visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.
