NORTH BALTIMORE — Helen O. Smith, 89, of North Baltimore, passed away at 5:20 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014, at her residence. She was born on March 16, 1925, to the late Harold E. and Ella Pearle (Sandrock) Hill in President, PA. She married Walter F. Smith and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1979.
Helen is survived by her children: Warren “Ed” (Sue) Smith of Englewood, FL, Kay E. Frost of North Baltimore, David L. (Judy) Smith of North Baltimore, and Karen S. (Kevin) Lindquist of North Baltimore; her siblings: Everett “Pete” (Elaine) Hill of Sharon, PA, Homer L. (Maryann) Hill of Tionesta, PA, and Ruth A. Kiefer of Tionesta, PA; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and by four great-great-grandchildren. Helen was also preceded in death by her sister, Anna M. Hundley.
Helen was a homemaker and was formerly a member of B.P.W (Business Professional Women), Junior League, North Baltimore Senior Center, and St. James United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She volunteered at Blanchard Valley Hospital and helped to establish the Historical Society in North Baltimore. She was very proud that she lived in a home that has been the Smith homestead for over 100 years. She loved her crafts, especially sewing, crocheting, and making snowflakes. She also enjoyed traveling in the camper with Walter, where she had many trips and memories. Playing cards, board games, and other games where also a joy in her life.
Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Reverend Susan Kronbach will officiate and burial will follow in New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore.
