Mary E. DeBord Searle, 94, went home to be with Jesus on May 23, 2014 under the care of the Bridge Hospice Care Center. She was born in Fosterville, TN on October 19, 1919 to the late C. Henry and Margaret (Modrall) Harrison. She married Harold M. DeBord on July 29, 1938 in Toledo and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1979. She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Terry) Campbell of St. Petersburg, FL; Joyce (Russ) Patterson of Benton Ridge; and Sharon (Larry) Chako of Bluffton. Mary has eight grandchildren: Connie Rinehart of Columbus; Debby Rinehart of Seminole, FL; Kim (Mike) Cook of Findlay; Kevin Patterson of Benton Ridge; Nikki (Andy) Reyna of Findlay; Angie (Andrew) Basinger of Pandora; Jennifer (Michael) Dietrich of Pandora and Kristy (Josh) Kurtz of Findlay; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis G. and Ralph H. Harrison.
On October 25, 1981, she married Rev. John C. Searle in Findlay and he preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1997. Three step-children survive: Sandy (Mike) Smith of Montgomery, AL; Sue (Lemar) Burmeister of Monroe, TN and Rev. John Searle, Jr. of Perrysburg; 10 step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren. A stepdaughter, Virginia Bell preceded her in death.
She was actively involved in The Church at Findlay Evangelical Free Church where she participated in both the O.W.L.S. class and the small groups.
Mary loved people. She never knew a stranger, having a way of communicating that was infectious. Mary loved her family and especially delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved Jesus and that was very evident by the way she lived her life. She is now home celebrating with the Saints.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Benton Ridge Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service in her memory at Findlay Evangelical Free Church at 11:00 a.m. Pastor David Cass will officiate. Visitation will be from 2-4:00 & 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Memorials may be made in her memory to Powell United Methodist Church or Findlay Evangelical Free Church.
