M. Dean Butler

butlerobitmugM. Dean Butler, 67, of Findlay passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his residence. He was born on September 11, 1946 to Marion Dean and Marietta Ellen (Mock) Butler in Roaring Springs, PA. He married Vickie McCartney and she survives.
He is also survived by his mother, Marietta Butler of Findlay; one son: Andrew Butler of Columbus; three daughters: Heather (Rod) Rose of Maumee, Jana Butler of Columbus and Katie Butler of Columbus and three grandchildren: Skyler, Mia and Zoe Rose. He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Butler.
Dean graduated from Findlay College, majoring in physical education and minoring in math. He then received his Master’s Degree from Bowling Green State University. In 1969, he began teaching at Van Buren High School staying for 5 years, in 1974 he started teaching at Liberty-Benton High School for the next 25 years, retiring in 1999. He was the Athletic Director for Liberty-Benton Schools starting in 1979 and retiring after 32 years in 2011. He was the Commissioner of the Blanchard Valley Conference and assigned officials for the conference. He was a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Directors Association. Dean was inducted into the Hancock County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. He was also a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Findlay with visitation one hour (10:00-11:00 a.m.) prior to the service. Pastor Larry Kreps will officiate and burial will follow in Benton Ridge Cemetery, Blanchard Twp.
