Richard “Dick” W. Hartman, 70, died Thursday, July 13, 2017, surrounded by family after a long and valiant fight with COPD. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in the Chapel of Rooks Funeral Home, 109 West White Road in Byron with Rev. Russell Whitehurst officiating. A memorial service will be held in Findlay, Ohio at a later date.
Born in Findlay, Ohio, on December 24, 1946, to the late Richard Martin Hartman and Betty Jane McMurray Hartman, Mr. Hartman was a 1965 graduate of Findlay High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1965 and served in the 11th Armored Cavalry Unit. He proudly served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Mr. Hartman was the co-owner of Findlay Electric Supply and a member of the Methodist faith.
Before moving to Macon, Georgia in 1992, he was a long-time member of the Findlay Country Club. He formerly served as a board member for the Middle Georgia Soccer Association and was also an active volunteer and supporter of the Stratford Academy soccer program in the mid-1990’s. Mr. Hartman was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fly fishing and hunting. A dedicated family man, his favorite time was spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Lynn Thaxton Hartman; their children, Nicole Gleaton (Edward) of Macon, Angela DellaDonna (Michael) of Macon, and Andrew Hartman (Michelle) of Atlanta; grandchildren, Jackson, Abigail, Ava, Cuyler, Sela, Ashleigh, and William; brother, Marty Hartman (Margaret) of Naples, Florida; brother-in-law, Sammy Thaxton (Deana) of Warner Robins; three nephews and a niece.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Rd., Macon, GA 31210. Rooks Funeral Home in Byron is in charge of arrangements.
