Ohio Police: 81-year-old Stabbed To Death In Home

SOUTH RUSSELL, Ohio (AP) — An 81-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in her northeast Ohio home and a grandson who served time in jail for taking her car without permission was arrested on a probation violation.

Ruth Phillips was found stabbed to death Tuesday night in the home shared with her grandson after a concerned friend called police.

Police Chief Timothy Carroll of Russell Township east of Cleveland said 18-year-old Clayton Phillips was arrested early Wednesday in a nearby Geauga (jee-AW’-guh) County community as officers searched for the victim’s car.

He was not charged in the slaying.

Last year Clayton Phillips was convicted of unauthorized use of his grandmother’s car and served time in jail following a complaint by his grandmother.

A message was left for the defense attorney who handled the case.
