Regional Council In Ohio Sued Over Meal Program

CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal lawsuit challenging cancellation of home-delivered meals to at least 34 older residents of a southwest Ohio county alleges an agency improperly applied eligibility criteria and didn’t use the same process in four other counties.

The lawsuit against the Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio was filed Tuesday in Cincinnati by 10 former meal recipients and the Clinton County Community Action Program in Wilmington, which delivers the meals. The lawsuit alleges the council violated constitutional guarantees to equal protection and due process in denying service to eligible residents.

Attorney Daniel Buckley says the lawsuit’s principal goal is to restore vital meals to former recipients.

In a statement, the council denies any wrongdoing and says it will defend itself.

The suit seeks class-action status and unspecified damages.
