Unarmed Ohio Man Shot In Chest Files Lawsuit

CINCINNATI (AP) — An unarmed man who says he had his hands in the air when a Cleveland police officer shot him in the chest over a traffic violation last year has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in the matter

Greg Love of Maple Heights and two others involved in the June 23 shooting filed the action in federal court on Feb. 13.

The 29-year-old Love says Montague’s actions were “extreme and outrageous” and that department leaders have fostered an atmosphere ripe for constitutional violations.

Montague returned to full duty this month after city spokeswoman Maureen Harper says he was disciplined for “improper procedure.” She did not specify what the discipline was.

Harper and police spokespeople declined to comment on the lawsuit’s allegations. Montague’s listed phone number does not accept messages.
