OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio sheriff says the family of a 10-year-old boy struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle endured a second tragedy hours later when a fire heavily damaged their home.
A statement from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office says the boy was taken to a hospital with a severe head injury after the crash Thursday evening on the road where he lives in Reily Township.
Emergency responders were again called to the home around 1:30 a.m. Friday because of a reported fire. Officials say the blaze caused significant damage.
The sheriff’s office says it had to notify the boy’s relatives about the fire while they were with the child at the hospital.
The sheriff’s office didn’t identify the boy or his family.
