Ex-W.Va. College Worker Sentenced In Thefts

WELLSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A former Bethany College employee who admitted stealing more than $1 million to keep two others from telling her husband about an online affair has been sentenced to two to 20 years in prison.

WTOV-TV (http://bit.ly/1e8sstD) reports Shelly Lough of Wheeling was sentenced Tuesday in Brooke County Circuit Court on two counts of felony embezzlement and falsifying accounts. She worked at the small liberal arts college as a cashier between July 2011 and May 2013.

Lough had told police the theft from the college occurred to pay off two people who threatened to tell her husband she had been unfaithful.

Jason Kirkland Weese and Rachaelle Marie Weese of Calcutta, Ohio, are scheduled for trial in federal court in Wheeling in August on multiple money laundering and extortion-related counts.
