Family Members Remember Pilot Killed In Ohio Crash

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — A family member says a 73-year-old man killed in a southeast Ohio plane crash over the weekend was an experienced flier who manned Navy jets in the Vietnam war and piloted commercial planes.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it could months before a report is issued on the cause of the Saturday crash that killed pilot Charles Wagner as he was trying to land his single-engine plane at the Ohio University airport.

Wagner was returning home from an aviation event in Florida when he crashed near a quarry a few hundred yards from the runway.

Son Kevin Wagner tells The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1jq5qh1) his father took ground fire as a Navy pilot in Vietnam and once thwarted a hijacking attempt while he was a commercial pilot in the 1970s.
