Suspect Fatally Shot By Dayton Police Identified

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A coroner has identified a man who Dayton police say was fatally shot by an officer after he pointed a gun at police while running from them.

The Montgomery County coroner’s office on Tuesday identified the man killed as 26-year-old Antwan Anderson, of Dayton.

The Dayton Daily News reports that Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said Anderson was shot about 6 p.m. Monday. Biehl says the man bailed out of a car and ran into a wooded area before turning and pointing a gun at officers.

The newspaper reports Anderson was sought by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team. Two Dayton officers were chasing him when the shooting occurred.

Biehl says an investigation will determine if the shooting was justified.

Calls seeking additional comment from police weren’t immediately returned.
