FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — The Army says a 23-year-old soldier has been charged with murder, kidnapping and related counts in the April 4 death of his 3-year-old son at the family’s home at Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks.
In a statement Wednesday, the Army said Sgt. Nathaniel E. Ulroan has been charged with premeditated murder, kidnapping, assault and communicating a threat.
Details of the death were not provided.
Military police found the child dead on April 4. Ulroan was treated at a hospital for unspecified injuries related to the child’s death, then taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center.
The combat engineer from Berea, Ohio, is awaiting an Army pretrial hearing to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to warrant trial by court-martial.
Previously stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state, he deployed to Iraq for three months and Afghanistan for 11 months.
