12 Accused Of Trafficking In Prescription Drugs

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio prosecutor says 12 people have been indicted in a prescription drug trafficking operation after a months-long investigation.

Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher says the indictments include over 400 counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated funding of drug activity and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

Thatcher said Monday that the drugs included over 100,000 prescription pills such as Percocet and others with a street value of about $2 million. He planned to release additional details on the investigation and charges at a Tuesday news conference.

Thatcher says shutting down the operation is a significant step in combating the state’s opioid addiction epidemic.

The defendants are scheduled to be arraigned May 2.
