Blue Jackets Aiming Higher After Playoff Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Having taken some big steps by making the playoffs and then winning two games, the Columbus Blue Jackets are aiming higher.

They want to contend for a Stanley Cup.

General manager Jarmo Kekalainen and coach Todd Richards said Thursday they believe that to become a truly dangerous team the Blue Jackets must get faster.

Richards was pleased with the season despite Monday night’s first-round ouster by Pittsburgh in Game 6. But he said his team — with the 15th-best record among the 16 playoff teams — was still only “middle of the road.”

Now, with a taste of success that inspired and expanded the fan base, the front office wants to build on the accomplishments.
