COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Federal authorities say they will review a case involving a former Akron police officer to determine if he committed any crimes by recording his actions while on duty using a pen camera.
The investigation of 47-year-old Donald Schismenos (SHIS’-men-ohs) comes at the request of Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, who in a statement referred to the recordings as “rogue actions.”
Schismenos, who joined the department in 1992, resigned last December after spending more than two years on paid leave. His attorney did not return calls Friday.
The recordings, discovered on a police department computer system in 2011, have previously been investigated by the department and other authorities with no charges or disciplinary action.
