Ohio Man Gets Prison Time For Stealing Human Bones

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man convicted of stealing human skulls and skeletons from a medical college and selling them has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.

A federal judge in Columbus also ordered former lab assistant Weston Moquin (MOH’-kwihn) to pay back the $85,000 in profits that prosecutors say he made from selling the items.

The 29-year-old Moquin pleaded guilty to stealing human remains, autopsy saws and other items from Ohio University in Athens, reaping profits from online sales.

Defense attorney Keith Yeazel (YAY’-zuhl) had asked the judge to give Moquin probation, arguing that he is a first-time, non-violent offender who stole to support a painkiller addiction.

Federal prosecutors asked for Moquin to serve 27 months in prison, arguing that he abused a position of trust and damaged Ohio University’s reputation.
