DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio bus driver who says a book of Bible verses in his pocket stopped the bullets fired at him is going to remain on leave until an investigation into the shooting is complete.
The Dayton Daily News ( ) reports that records from Rickey Wagoner’s personnel show he is fit for duty again but is still on paid leave.
The 49-year-old city of Dayton bus driver was shot three times in February. One shot struck him in the right leg and two were fired into his chest. He says an inch-thick booklet of Bible verses in his shirt pocket stopped the bullets.
The attack is being investigated as a hate crime. Wagoner is white and the youths who attacked him are black. There have been no arrests.
