COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A new poll shows Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik) widening his lead over Democratic challenger Ed FitzGerald with about six months to go before the election.
The poll released Wednesday by Quinnipiac (KWIHN’-uh-pee-ak) University in Connecticut shows the Republican Kasich is ahead of FitzGerald 50 percent to 35 percent.
The same poll in February had Kasich leading by a 43-to-38 percent margin.
The May 7-12 survey notes that many Ohioans still don’t know much about FitzGerald, the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County executive. The survey said 63 percent of voters don’t know enough about FitzGerald to form an opinion of him.
Fifty-six percent of Ohioans questioned approve of the job Kasich is doing.
The survey of 1,174 Ohio voters has a margin of error of just under 3 percentage points.
