MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — A grand jury in central Ohio has indicted a 24-year-old father in the violent beating death of his 5-month-old son.
The Knox County prosecutor’s office said Monday that Michael Wingett was indicted on murder and other charges in the death last week of his 5-month-old son Allan Conway at the family’s home in Fredericktown.
An autopsy found that the baby’s injuries included blunt force trauma to the head and torso, new and healing rib fractures, bruised lungs and internal bleeding.
County Prosecutor John Thatcher said the force used to cause the child’s injuries was similar to what he would have suffered in a serious car crash.
If convicted, Wingett could face life in prison. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney yet.
