DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — U.S. Department of Transportation numbers show that airports serving Dayton and Akron/Canton had the cheapest fares in the state last year.
The Dayton Daily News ( ) crunched the numbers and also determined that the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport had the highest average ticket prices in the state in 2013.
The Cincinnati airport trailed only the Huntsville, Alabama, airport for the highest average ticket price in the nation, the newspaper says.
The Akron-Canton airport was the state’s cheapest, with an average of $334 last year. Dayton’s average price was $371. Cincinnati’s average fare was $510.
National aviation expert Jay Ratliff says competition and low cost carriers are what’s driving the average ticket prices down in Dayton, which has had some of the lowest prices for decades.
