Ohio City Fires 3 After Vehicle Disturbs Graves

TOLEDO (AP) — The city of Toledo has fired three workers and reprimanded a supervisor after a municipal vehicle ran into headstones at a local cemetery and was left.

WTOL-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1momjHB) the workers were fired Friday. The city-owned Jeep was found parked atop grave markers at Forest Cemetery on Monday and later towed.

One worker drove the Jeep and the two others were passengers. They took the vehicle without permission.

The workers were part of a federal employment program run through Lucas County Empowerment Corp. that’s designed to allow income-qualified youth to gain work experience and earn money.

In a statement, the city said hundreds of responsible youth participate in the program each year.

The city has re-positioned the markers, which weren’t damaged.
