Ohio Auditor Offers Guidance For Phoned Town Halls

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s auditor is offering guidance to public officials who want to conduct telephone town halls using taxpayer money.

The suggestions from Auditor Dave Yost follow an attorney general opinion issued earlier this year that allowed the state treasurer to hold such meetings.

Treasurer Josh Mandel (man-DEHL’) was cleared to use taxpayer dollars to contract with a private firm specializing in organizing and conducting the calls as long as their content sticks to state treasurer’s office business and not politics.

The auditor said he’s issuing proposed guidance for the meetings after multiple fiscal officers asked him for it.

Yost’s suggestions to the officers include keeping an agenda and minutes and giving notice to the media and public about the meetings, along with other policies. He’s seeking public comment on the guidance.
