Ex-Ohio Health Director Joins Trade Association

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The state’s former health director has joined a trade association representing community health centers.

Dr. Theodore Wymyslo (WIMZ’-loh) stepped down in February from the Ohio Department of Health, saying he planned to return to private medical practice. However, the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers recently announced he has signed on as their new chief medical officer.

Wymsylo has advocated for so-called patient-centered medical homes, a model of primary care focused on improved coordination between medical providers and avoiding unnecessary tests and costs.

The trade group says he’ll work to extend that model of care to more than 200 community health centers across the state and address their workforce needs.

In some areas, health centers are the only source of health care for Medicaid and uninsured patients.
