AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio woman whose former boyfriend is accused of killing her parents with a sledgehammer has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison on drug charges.

Nineteen-year-old Chelsea Schobert was sentenced Tuesday in Akron after pleading guilty to trafficking crack cocaine. She is eligible to apply for early release after six months.

The Akron Beacon Journal ( ) reports her attorney called the sentence a chance at redemption for Schobert, while also providing punishment for the crime.

Schobert’s parents were fatally beaten in April 2013 at their home in New Franklin. Her former boyfriend, 19-year-old Shawn Eric Ford Jr., is scheduled for trial in September and could be sentenced to the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder.

A juvenile also is charged.
