MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) — A unit of the Ohio Air National Guard has dedicated one of its aircraft to an Ohio city that Guard officials say has supported the unit and its members.
The 179th Airlift Wing based at Mansfield in northern Ohio on Saturday dedicated one of its C-130 aircraft to that city during Mansfield Lahm Airport day festivities. The aircraft was designated “Spirit of Mansfield,” with the name painted over the aircrew door.
The Guard says an Air Force Outstanding Unit ribbon is painted under the name. That is an award that the 179th Airlift Wing has received numerous times.
Col. Gary McCue, commander of the 179th Airlift Wing, also presented a special memorial shadow box of the C-130 dedication ceremony to the city of Mansfield in gratitude for its support.
