AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Police in northeast Ohio say an 87-year-old man fatally shot his 78-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself — and surviving the shot.
Akron police say Betty Harrison-Paxton was found Tuesday in the bedroom of the couple’s home. She’d been shot multiple times.
Police believe her husband, John Paxton, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chin and lower jaw. He was being treated at a hospital and is expected to survive.
The Akron Beacon Journal ( ) reports that John Paxton called 911 to report the shooting just before 9 a.m. Tuesday. He told police he shot his wife and himself and that he hopes he dies.
Police say they don’t have a motive. Betty Harrison-Paxton was in good health. The couple had been married about 20 years.
