DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman suspected of taking a guide dog from a blind woman’s backyard and selling the animal has been indicted on a theft charge.
A grand jury indicted 21-year-old Bonnie Ritchie of Dayton on Wednesday. She’s charged with theft from a disabled person.
Ritchie has an unlisted phone number. No attorney is listed for her in court documents.
Montgomery County prosecutors say a Dayton woman reported the dog, a purebred Rottweiler named Diamond, was missing from her backyard Feb. 17.
Prosecutors say Ritchie sold the dog Feb. 20 after posting it to Craigslist. Less than a week later, the buyer recognized Diamond from a news story about the theft and reported Ritchie to police.
Prosecutors didn’t say where the dog is now.
Ritchie has a court hearing July 31.
