DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The University of Dayton will hold a ritual leave-taking ceremony ahead of a $12 million renovation of the school’s chapel.
The university says the ceremony is set for Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Chapel to remove some of the chapel’s religious items before renovation begins. Officials say various items will be moved to a temporary worship space where some Masses will be held until the chapel reopens in late summer 2015.
Improvements will be made to the interior of the chapel built in 1869. The cupola and exterior look are expected to remain largely unchanged.
Officials say the renovated chapel will seat nearly 350 people and have smaller rooms for private and small group prayer.
Upgrades also will be made to the chapel’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system
