Akron University’s Presidential Home To Be Updated

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The University of Akron plans to spend about $375,000 to renovate its presidential home for the school’s new leader.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports ( ) that it will be the first major update to the French country home since the university bought it in 1999 for $850,000.

Scott Scarborough started his presidency this month. He’s required to live in university-provided housing.

School officials say the president is the university’s public face and renovations to the 7,600-square-foot home are appropriate.

The school will knock down a wall between two rooms on the home’s second floor to make a master suite with a walk-in closet and en suite bathroom.

Scarborough is expected to move into the house later this year with his wife, 6-year-old daughter and his wife’s parents.
