Ohio Woman Sentenced In W.Va. Embezzlement

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — An Ohio woman has been sentenced to one year and six months in federal prison for embezzling $150,000 from a government-subsidized apartment complex in West Virginia.

Fifty-one-year-old Connie Lynn Whitley of Proctorville, Ohio, was sentenced Monday in federal court in Huntington.

Whitley managed the Uptowner Inn’s public housing apartments in Huntington. The U.S. Department for Housing and Urban Development provided federal funds to pay a portion of the market rent at the apartments for qualifying tenants.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says that between the summer of 2009 and September 2013, Whitley wrote checks to herself from the apartments’ HUD accounts.
