LOGAN (AP) — Officials say that Hocking County’s coroner has pleaded not guilty to charges that he neglected his job duties.
Prosecutors charged Hocking County coroner David Cummin in July with leaving the county without coroner coverage on several occasions. Prosecutors also say Cummin told a county commissioner he would delay an autopsy until receiving proof in writing that county commissioners would transfer necessary money into morgue funds.
Cummin pleaded not guilty Monday to three counts of dereliction of duty, and single counts of obstructing official business and coercion.
Cummin’s lawyer declined to comment Tuesday.
A special prosecutor and visiting judge were appointed to the case after the county prosecutor and a municipal judge recused themselves.
A pretrial hearing has been set for Aug. 19.
