No Report Of Cops At Recent OSU Band Rituals

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State has no record during the tenure of its recently-fired band director of campus police attending an annual ritual where marching band members entered Ohio Stadium in their underwear.

The Midnight Ramps were cited in an investigation into the band’s “sexualized culture” that resulted in Jonathan Waters’ July 24 firing.

Waters has said the university’s police and athletic departments witnessed the event over the years, suggesting the school’s tacit approval. President Michael Drake says the late-night marches and other off-color revelations of the probe surprised him.

A band alumni group says dozens have witnessed police at the events, and the lack of documentation probably indicates it was just “one of those wink-and-nod cool traditions.”
