CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A jury in central Ohio took about an hour to find a 30-year-old man guilty of killing his 84-year-old grandfather by shooting him in the face in March.
Shaun Lawson didn’t testify and his attorney didn’t call any witnesses during the trial Tuesday.
Prosecutors say Lawson went to his grandfather’s home in rural Pickaway County March 29 to steal his guns and kill his own father, who wasn’t there.
Instead, they say, Lawson shot his grandfather, Thomas “Shorty” Whitson, three times in the face as he sat in his favorite easy chair.
He was convicted of aggravated murder and other charges and will be sentenced later.
Three others are facing trial in the case. A fifth defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
