CINCINNATI (AP) — A coalition of church ministers representing Cincinnati’s black community wants a prosecutor to retry a white police officer charged in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man after jurors failed to agree on a verdict.
Several clergy members gathered Monday outside Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters’ office to push for a retrial of now-fired University of Cincinnati officer Ray Tensing. They want Deters’ decision by next Monday. They also want to meet with him.
A mistrial was declared Saturday after jurors deadlocked in Tensing’s trial on murder and voluntary manslaughter charges in the fatal shooting of Sam DuBose during a traffic stop in July 2015.
Deters said Monday he wants all the information before making a retrial decision. He has said he plans to decide by Nov. 28.
