CLEVELAND (AP) — A former bus driver for a Cleveland area transit authority who was charged in the death of a pedestrian struck by the driver’s bus has pleaded guilty to a vehicular homicide charge.
reports 46-year-old Antoinette Peterkin pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor in a Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County court on Oct. 2. Authorities said Peterkin failed to stop at a stop sign Dec. 7 and struck 69-year-old Joan Kuendig in a crosswalk. The Shaker Heights woman died at a hospital several weeks later.
Peterkin’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
A Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority review determined Peterkin slowed down, but failed to completely stop before turning. The transit authority fired her in January.
Peterkin is scheduled for sentencing Nov. 13.
